The title of Prickly Pair's 7th release is one of Locke's self-penned tunes "Romance with the Range"( release date may 23, 2008). There are two more originals by Locke; grassy-flavored "Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid" and a cowboy, ranch-based love song, "Calloused Hands and a Soft Heart".  Featured also some wonderful old silver screen style Western songs from the 30’s & 40's; Billy Hill's famous "Call of the Canyon", Will Rodgers' favorite tune "Ole Faithful" coupled in a medley with another Billy Hill song "The Last Round-Up". There’s a ragtime fiddle tune from Les' fiddle-fancy arsenal, two Celtic treasures and the swing/jazz number from Ella Fitzgerald fame, "Cow Cow Boogie" and much more! With this recording, Prickly Pair is pleased to introduce the newest member of their band, Norman Winter on the stand-up bass. Norman also offers lead and harmony vocals. As the new official "Cactus Chorale", Norman adds an expanded dimension to Prickly Pair's sound. He is a talented musician......he is funny, handsome, full of happy energy and sings like a bird! What more could a body ask for? Norman was raised in Dubois, WY and spent most of his early years on a cattle outfit up the Dunoir Valley. He tells of how he rode an old crabby Appaloosa horse that no one else wanted to use to move cows. Norman said, “‘Apache’ was mostly grumpy and I’m mostly cheerful so we pretty much even-ed each other out….. ” Yup, that’s Norman! The Hamiltons were introduced to a gifted poet, Ivan Kershner, who sent them a poem entitled  "The Ranch Sale".  With the help of Les & Norman, Locke adapted and set Ivan's poem to music. Since much of Prickly Pair’s audience base are 'folks of the land' (or those in tune with life in the West) "The Ranch Sale" is bound to be one of the 'kickers' of this recording. There are 14 cuts in all with an additional surprise 'bonus track'.
